Right now, let me speak to the Leaders who fall into the center of the curve. Why would you want to attend an Area Conference? If you've never been to one, this is where you can learn new information about breastfeeding, parenting, and birth practices that can impact breastfeeding; practice communication skills; hear world-class speakers; meet other LLL Leaders and their families; renew friendships and make new acquaintances, and lots more.
For many Leaders sitting on the fence, the effort of travel, funding, or reorganizing the family schedule is a true challenge. Difficulties like these can make the time spent at a conference seem less worthwhile. On the other hand, making the commitment to attend can be an opportunity for you to focus on you, remind yourself of the value you offer to the world and to LLL, and feed your need to connect with Leaders and families. This in turn will benefit so many mothers and babies when you return to your community with renewed vigor.
Registration is now open for the November 2014 LLL of New York Area Conference, "The MotherLLLy Language of Love". Take a look at the lineup of sessions and speakers. Think about your memories of the last Area Conference or Leader event you attended, and the fun and challenges you had there with your little ones (who may be much bigger now!).
Consider how you are going to make it happen for you this year. You won't be disappointed you made the effort to attend. Maybe you'll run into that mother you knew from your Group so long ago, who moved to another part of the state and became a Leader because of you. Perhaps you'll forge a new friendship with a Leader you know only from Facebook, or get to know your co-Leader on a deeper level. What will the Area Conference hold for you this year? Come and find out!
