A fabulous basket isn’t necessarily a bank-busting proposition. Here are a few ideas to get your creativity flowing.
- Have the Group pick a theme for your basket (for example, family movie night). Ask each member to contribute one item to the basket (in this case, packets of microwave popcorn, DVDs of G-rated films, large plastic cups).
- Perhaps you or someone in the Group has a hidden talent. Do you have a member who's an author, painter, or crafter? Ask her if she would be willing to donate an item to the auction. Remind her that donations are tax-deductible.
- Some local businesses may be willing to donate a gift card. Take a Group member or two along with you and shop for a custom auction basket that represents your part of New York.
- Let’s not forget fathers, grandparents, and older siblings. What types of items would appeal to those in your support network? A golf basket? A “day at Grandma’s” basket? A collection of the latest teen novels?
Of course, this is a breastfeeding conference, so pregnancy and baby items are always welcome. Please remember that LLLI guidelines require that all baby- and breastfeeding-related products comply with World Health Organization standards.
I know you will brainstorm some great basket ideas with your Group. Let me know by October 25 via email if your group is sending a basket. All items must be shipped to me by November 1 (Tracy Adams, 2117 Bernard Blvd, Endicott, NY 13760), or you can deliver them to the conference hotel when you arrive.
I can’t wait to see what each Group creates. Please share your ideas with us in the Leaders' Lounge on Facebook!
