On review of the most recent version of the Area Agreement, the Agreements Consulting Team has asked LLL of NY to revise the section of the document on resolving conflicts between Leaders and Area Administrators. The current language is extremely simple, in part because such issues have arisen rarely--if ever--in LLL of NY. It reads as follows:
“As a member of the Alliance [for Breastfeeding Education], the Area is subject to the Alliance Accountability Procedure for Area Administrators (available on the Alliance Web site), which exists to ensure that administrators are accountable to Leaders. If no resolution can be met, the matter will be referred to the accrediting organization, LLLI, and/or the LLLI Board of Directors. Any Leader questioning a Team member’s performance can take advantage of this procedure.”
“Any Leader questioning a Team member’s performance may take advantage of this procedure.
"An Area Leader or Leaders needs to first directly address the administrator with her concerns. This will allow an opportunity for the Leader(s) to clarify the concern and for the administrator to respond. The hope would be that this contact would resolve the concern by encouraging communication that would allow both sides to better understand the Area administrator's job duties and the adequate performance thereof. If the situation is not resolved by the foregoing, then one of the Area’s Communication Skills Instructors (CSI) is available to facilitate with positive written and in-person communication. The administrator may respond by clarifying her job description for the concerned Leader(s), outlining goals to be achieved relating to job duties or by requesting assistance in performing these duties or to be relieved of her position.
"If there is no resolution of the concern after direct communication and mediation, the Area Leader(s) would then contact the person from the Alliance AN who directly supports the administrator to communicate the concern. The support person will utilize her support system as necessary and communicate as needed with the rest of the Area Team members in order to gather needed information and facilitate a resolution. If the situation is not resolved by the foregoing, then one of the Area’s Communication Skills Instructor (CSI) may be chosen to facilitate with positive written and in-person communication. Mediated meetings may be held in person or electronically to further seek resolution. Efforts will be made to ensure that all parties feel heard and demonstrate good intent. A plan will be mutually devised and shared clarifying the administrator's job description, outlining goals to be achieved relating to job duties and requesting assistance in performing these duties as necessary. If the administrator in question disagrees with the plan, she may appeal to the Alliance AN Director for an alteration in the plan or she may resign. If no resolution can be met, the matter will be referred to the accrediting organization, LLLI and/or the LLLI Board of Directors.”
During the next week, we will send you an email survey asking about this portion of the Area Agreement. When you receive it, we ask that you respond with your opinion. Thanks in advance for your participation.
